BASTOGNE - Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes

Full day "Battle of the Bulge Museum tour" (9am till 7pm) 

Bastogne, located in the heart of the Ardennes region (southern Belgium), is famous for the part it played in the Battle of the Bulge.

On Sunday, December 16th, 1944 while the people of the Ardennes prepare for their first Christmas since the liberation of Belgium, German artillery weapons capture the American positions in the Belgian Ardennes. A total of 250,000 soldiers accompanied by 1,000 tanks, march through the Ardennes.

9AM Pick up from your Brussels hotel and drive to Namur, the capital of Wallonia, drive over the river and enjoy amazing views overlooking the port  and the Meuse valley. On the way, your driver-guide * will tell you about Belgium, about the Ardens and Wallonia. You will have a good introduction to the region, its culture, geography and history. Proceed to Bastogne and stop on the main square to see the Sherman tank and the bust of Mc Aulif. Proceed to the Mardasson Memorial and the War Museum. The self-guided tour through the museum is highly interactive. Here you will step back in time and experience the reality of the Battle of the Bulge..The audioguide allows you to follow the paths of these characters, never destined to meet if it weren’t for the events of 1944. Each character presents their own vision of the conflict, a story which is at times happy, at times sad. It’s an immersive experience that gives visitors the impression of an intimate relationship with each character. The characters are inspired by real facts and their stories later embellished with fiction. However, as with all the contents of the Bastogne War Museum, the stories have been verified by a committee of renowned researchers to best represent the reality of the times. Next see the Mardason Memorial and the Foxholes at Bois Jacques. Last but not least drive thru the village of Foy (Band of Brothers) before we head back to Brussels (2h).

Bastogne War Rooms - Add 1hour to your tour and visit The Bastogne War Rooms, an iconic location from World War II, house the McAuliffe’s historical cellar where on December 22, 1944, Brigadier General McAuliffe of the 101st Airborne Division uttered his famous "NUTS" in response to the surrender request from German forces besieging the town of Bastogne.
